Nikita Diakur

Nikita Diakur is a Russian-born filmmaker and animator based in Germany.
His most distinguished project Ugly produces short films inspired by stories mined from the internet, each filled with bizarre characters, high-octane urban environments, and terrifyingly unpredictable physics. The signature technique used in Ugly's films is a dynamic computer simulation, which embraces spontaneity, randomness, and mistakes.

Nikita studied Animation at the Royal College of Art in London, where he produced Fly on the Window (2009) which went on to screen at international film festivals such as Zagreb, Annecy, and Edinburgh. Ugly (2017), Fest (2018), and Backflip (2022) have garnered universal acclaim for their unique use of software glitches and defects to tell sensitive stories about equally broken humans.
