Broke, burned out, brutally online: making space for mental health in the creative industries by Emily Gosling.
For many creatives, work isn’t just work – it’s identity. So, it’s little surprise that evidence has been mounting that those working in the creative industries experience higher rates of anxiety, depression, and burnout than most other workers. This talk looks to unpack why, and how we can deal with it: from algorithmic visibility and insecure work to the culture of constant self-promotion to the personal toll of staying visible, relevant, and employed. Through new interviews and research, it will look at how digital overload, precarity, and outdated ideas about “creative genius” are affecting mental health. Ultimately, it aims to offer grounded, practical ways to make creative work more sustainable, both individually and collectively.
A unique talk by Emily Gosling, created especially for MOUVO.
